PESCHIERA DEL GARDA

A real fortress city, completely enclosed by water, Peschiera is a jewel of architecture, art and culture.
The ancient “Arilica”, which has always been a strategic point of Lake Garda, already hosted in the Roman times, an association of “navicellari”, which ferried men and goods from north to south of the lake, up to the Mincio river.
Dante had already described it as “Beautiful and strong tool”, the city had a fortress at the time of the Scaligeri, was enclosed in a mighty pentagonal fortress under the domination of the Serenissima in the sixteenth century and in the nineteenth century became part of the most impressive defensive system of Italy, the Quadrilatero, together with Legnago, Mantova and Verona.
Wide and very long beaches look at the cone of Monte Baldo from the South, bordered by reeds where the different species of aquatic fauna find shelter. Ideal for long bike rides, the cycle path of the Mincio river begins near Porta Brescia, skirting the high ramparts of the imposing sixteenth-century walls, and takes the visitor to environments of peace and nature, following the emerald green waters of the river, in a play of light and color
